This student has gone off the deep end!

Write a balanced hlf equation for the reaction at the positive electrode.
2 + 3 = 7

Umm, that's not a chemistry equation, and also not a correct math equation.

Write a balanced half equation for the reaction at the negative electrode.
fork + shoe = spleen

Ahhh, are you feeling ok?

Explain why the concentration of sulphate ions increases in the electrolyte?
Aliens. Damn aliens are responsible for everything weird that's going on around here.

Yikes, looks like this student has gone off the deep end! Someone call the school nurse.

Nice guess

In which of these two steps does reduction of titanium occur?  2
Explain your answer: The calculate probability of getting this answer correct was 50%.  good enough.

Nice try.

ZERO effort = ZERO marks

(i)  stuff  --> other stuff

Great answer, but I'd rather see you draw a picture of Borat or King Leonidas.

(ii) Which species is the oxidant (oxidising agent) in this reaction?     1st One
Justify Your answer:     Guess

Well, at least he's honest!

(iii) Describe what you would observe as this reaction took place. Link your observations to the species involved.

Add Contents of Packet and return to boil whilst stirring continuously. Simmer on a medium heat for 10 minutes. Sauce will thicken on standing. Serves 4.

What the F?  Did this kid copy a recipe for powdered cheese sauce?

Shaken, not stirred

Q: What type of attractive force or bond holds the sodium ions and chloride ions together in a crystal of sodium chloride?

A: James bond

WRONG!  We were looking for 'Bond, James Bond'

For you nerds out there, the correct answer is ionic bond.

Argon thieves

(iii) Explain why an atmosphere of argon is required in the second statge.

I'd say it was probably those damn aliens again..  Them and their illegal moon rock trade. Always trying to kidnap all the argon.

Nice try, but I'm pretty sure the alien moon rock trade is legal.

God the chemist

Q: Explain why phosphorus trichloride (PCI3) is polar.
A: God made it that way

Note to test taker: this isn't the old evolution vs creationism debate, it's chemistry!

The question isn't clear

You can't really fault the test taker for an answer like this. In my opinion, the marker should have given a pity mark (although it's not exactly clear from the test that they didn't.)
